This week I found out the Disneyland Half Marathon has sold out. I was actually quite surprised considering they raised their fees from an already astronomical price to an even more astronomical price. I’ve run this race every year since the inaugural in 2006. Last year for the 5th running of it, all the Legacy runners got an extra lanyard. I know, I know. We were outrageously rewarded for our faithful participation. I felt a little jipped. When the Disneyland people were at the LA Marathon expo, I along with a couple of other Legacy runners, were told all Legacy participants were getting an extra special medal. What?! Wow! We were so excited! I could definitely justify the $125 I just forked over for it. Wrong. I cross the finish line and wow, an extra medal lanyard. But…where’s the other medal that goes with it??
When registration opened up, I saw the $125 race fee but then I also saw the $135 and $145 fees if you didn’t register by a certain date. What?! For a half marathon?! I seriously couldn’t justify paying the cost of it anymore. I like this race but not THAT much.
I know I will miss it a bit when September rolls around. The day before the race, my sister and I would pick up ours, and our friend Peter’s race packet and Peter would graciously reward us with a post-race Jamba Juice smoothie. It was a nice little ritual we had, but I suppose there will be other races and possibly more smoothies in the future.

Oooh Jamba Juice! I’m so excited and I just can’t hide it. |
