I’m trying to get ready for my upcoming training for RnR LA by keeping my mileage low and working on increasing my leg strength this week. So yesterday when I had to run an errand, I decided to tack on some hill work. There is a street nearby with a massive incline that I like to call “El Diablo” because it’s evil.
It’s seriously steep and regardless if you’re walking or running up it, you’re parallel to the ground and your legs massively burn no matter how slow or how fast you go. It’s so difficult to run to the top that I only went half way. Of course, I made it half way five times (then I walked back down) so I’m very happy about that, but my goal is to make it all the way up! Oh yes, I want to run all the way up without stopping! That’s my next goal!! I have many goals going on at once but running up “El Diablo” would be a serious running accomplishment for me. I’m going to add that to the list.
Today I hit the gym early and ran a 2 mile (25:30) warm-up for my strength training session which consisted of mostly squats and lunges – lots of leg work because I want those babies strong to get ready for my increased mileage! I really want to run a great RnR LA so I’m really ready to focus on improving strength while improving endurance. I think I see a lot more hill work in the forecast.
I needed to run more errands today so I decided to turn it into another run. It’s Twofer Tuesday! This time I got in 3.33 miles. It was a little warm out but not unbearably hot. However, I didn’t take any water with me. Whenever I see people running outside I never see them carrying water and I always find that odd. I usually carry water with me but today, I opted not to. I wanted to see how it felt and I felt a little lost without it and could’ve used some. I think if I took some I would’ve run a little longer but I’m happy I got a little extra run in and the route had some nice inclines – not as steep as “El Diablo” but definitely a noticeable grade.
After I got home and downed some water, I made a refreshing green smoothie with mango, fuji apple, banana, and lots o’ baby spinach!
It’s been awhile since I’ve made a green smoothie and it was: Ahhhh, refreshing!!
