run with us

As I was sitting here waiting for my laundry to dry, I asked myself: with the Rock ‘n’ Roll LA Half Marathon next weekend, do I run the scheduled 12 miles, or take it easy with lower mileage tomorrow?

I have really no idea what to do. A part of me really wants to run the 12 miles. The other part of me wants to run less.
Decisions. Decisions.

In the meantime, I got new running shoes!! Actually, they aren’t entirely new. I bought them last December and have held onto them until I really need them. Although I don’t entirely need them because my current shoes still have some mileage to go before they are absolutely broken down, I figured it doesn’t hurt to use some new shoes for next week’s race.

It was like Christmas! I loooove the sight and smell of new running shoes! However, I got a little nervous when I saw this tape on the outside box:

It’s been 10 months since I got these. What if they were the wrong shoes?! I didn’t examine the contents in the presence of carrier’s representative. How in the world would I be able to find the carrier’s representative?!
This was a good sign:

Awwww, I had nothing to worry about. 🙂

Because I’ve been wearing the same brand and model line for years (New Balance 760s), I just buy the same pair when they’re on sale. I found buying shoes at the end of the year is much like buying a new car – You’re going to get a better deal because the newer models are coming out and they want to get rid of their old inventory. 🙂
Turns out, I wasn’t the only one who got new shoes. My sister needed some. We ventured over to specialty running store Run With Us located in Pasadena. She was able to find a good pair and now she has happy feet.

These runners need to totally loosen up.

This store was really great. The look of it is a little deceiving because from the outside it looks small, but when you walk in, it’s actually quite large and they have a wide selection of shoes and apparel to choose from. They didn’t pay me to say that. They didn’t even give me free running shoes. 🙁

I’ve been running with my new pair since last week on the lower miles, but used my older shoes for last week’s long run because we were going to be running in dirt and there was no way, I was wearing new shoes in the dirt. If they were trail shoes, I’d have no problemo with that, but they weren’t. I’d like my new shoes to stay a little new and cleaner for a little while longer thank you.

My clothes are all dried and put away and I still don’t know what to do about tomorrow. I don’t think I’ll know until I get out there, when I will judge how I feel, and go from there. At least I’ve got me some new shoes to run in.
