We’re already into our third month of 2013 and I haven’t gotten around to writing anything. January and February flew by so fast! The funny thing is I started to write this post in January, and then in February but I just didn’t get it done. I’ll chalk it up to life, laziness, and lack of inspiration to write anything. Just a slow start but I’ll pick up speed, just a little speed. I’m still slow. 🙂
Well coming off an injury that really hindered running in December, I was determined to start the year off on a happy note so I signed up for the XTERRA Boney Mountain Trail Run that took place the first weekend of January. There was a 21k portion but I was in no condition to even attempt that. The 6k distance was perfect for me. The morning of the race it was raining so I thought, well I guess I’ll be doing a muddy buddy race but without the buddy. Turns out the weather cooperated. The rain clouds disappeared, the sun came out, but it was chiillllyy! Chilly I say.
Trying to keep warm before the start.
Something you don’t get in road races are instructions about the course. So just before us 6k participants took off, this very funny and quite entertaining guy tells what we need to look for so we don’t end up on the 21k course, or off the map, or somewhere in Arizona.
Wow! I wish those clouds stayed around a little longer.
After hearing about what markers to look for and where to turn, it was game time. All of us participants lined up at the start line and this was probably the closest I’ve ever been to a start line right off the bat. Usually I’m way down the line in some double digit corral but nope, not in trail races, and not in small trail races.
Is that Boney Mountain?
The course was absolutely fabulous! The first couple of miles were pretty much downhill. Miles 2 to 3 was all uphill. And mile 3 to the finish was downhill and flat. The trail was muddy but not unbearable or very slippery. Once you got up to mile 3 the view was gorgeous!
Is that Boney Mountain?
Is one of these Boney Mountain?
Quite possibly on Boney Mountain.
Will the real Boney Mountain please stand up?
Loving the trails!
The Boney Mountain race was great and the 6k was a nice distance for someone who wanted a quick run, or lovely hike. I did a combination of both. Ha! Maybe next year I’ll sign up for the 21k but I was just happy to participate in anything at all. It was a good start to 2013.
