birthday baseball getaway

Posted on August 28, 2013June 13, 2015 by arunningmess

Today is my birthday, or as I usually call it, my burfday. I’m at an age where I suppose I shouldn’t be pronouncing it like that but who cares? I don’t. So yes today is my burfday and I’ve been celebrating it all month long!

I’ve been celebrating by enjoying life! I actually took a vacation and it wasn’t just a few days off. I actually took a whole week off! I’ve never in my whole employment history taken a whole week off from work. Ever.

My vacation week started with going to watch Dawes perform an acoustic set at Whole Foods Market. Yeah, it got real in the Whole Foods parking lot. I absolutely love Dawes!
Dawes

After watching their set streamed during Outside Lands, I was just sad they didn’t play longer
here. Oh well. I’ll take what I could get.  A week after Dawes was in San Francisco, I went up to San Francisco with my sister to watch the Red Sox play the Giants. Why couldn’t Dawes and I be there together at the same time?! Why???

Now, I grew up as a Giants fan, but in the last 14 years or so I’ve been cheering on the Red Sox through good times and bad. I do like the Giants and want them to do well, but when it
came right down to it, my heart lies with the Red Sox.
So of course, I wanted the Red Sox to win!

Trolley ride in the ballpark!

Having lived in San Francisco I was quite aware of how chilly it can get. Because of this, I was so close to getting one of these warm fuzzy hats:

Straight out of “Tropic Thunder.” Amanda? No, Panda!

I didn’t get the hat, but speaking of Panda…

Panda!!!

We had some pretty crazy weather during the first game. The weather did get cold and the skies got really dark, but in the distance we had lightning! Yes, we got a full-on lightning show. Every few minutes we’d see light flash across the sky and the crowd was all, “oooh…ahhh…” I was able to get some on video and capture an image of it.

Lightning show!

I can’t help but think it looks like arteries. But I honestly think this lightning generated some energy for the Red Sox to win. And win they did! Well they won the first game. The second game was ugly and didn’t end well but we’ll focus on the good.

There was no way I was going to be in San Francisco and not go for a run. Luckily I was able to run along the Embarcadero. Surprisingly it wasn’t that cold. In fact, it felt a bit humid, but no matter what the temperature was, I was going to get out there no matter what.

Good Morning Bay Bridge!
After another whirlwind of a day walking around the city, we had another baseball game to attend to and unfortunately, the Red Sox did not win. But they can’t win them all, right? I used to live
in San Francisco and I absolutely love the city. Always have and pretty much
always will! I could definitely see myself living there again. But for now, it’s just nice to get up there even for a brief visit. I’ll always leave my heart in San Francisco.

Good Night Bay Bridge!

Thanks for reading and Happy Travels! Go Red Sox!
