new l.a. leggers season and a trail run

Posted on August 28, 2013June 15, 2015 by arunningmess

I knew when August started, it was going to just fly by. And it did! This month has been seriously crazy busy but I loved it! One thing I wanted to accomplish this month was to spruce up the look of this blog a little bit. It’s really subtle but I can tell the difference. I’ll probably do a complete overhaul of it at some point but for now this will do. And the touch-ups are just in time for the new LA Leggers season! Yes another running club season is upon us and since last season didn’t go so great for me, I’m hoping to have a much better experience this time around. And to be honest, I have a feeling it will be. I’m in a group with some pretty awesome mentors and a comfortable pace that feels great for me at this time. Just gotta keep any injuries away.

Kicking off our new season this past Saturday was Marathon Goddess herself, Julie Weiss! Julie is one awesome woman! Starting with the Rome Marathon in 2012, she ran 52 marathons in 52 weeks, ending with the LA Marathon this past March. Her story was documented recently in Spirit of the Marathon II which is supposed to be released later this year on DVD. I wish it were going to be in theaters again because I loved watching it on the big screen.

Julie is extremely motivating and inspiring so check out her website and Like her Facebook page!

Initially my goal was to run long on Saturday but that didn’t happen. I ended up with 4
miles but
that was perfectly OK since I really wanted a longer trail run on Sunday. I’ve professed my love for trail running before but the more I get out there, the more love I
have for it. Even if I’m not out there for very long, I just feel so good after a little time on a trail.

Sunday’s trail run was tough but I find the payoff in the views is so friggin’ worth it! Took
me about 4 miles to finally get a view but wowza! I simply can’t get these views with road running alone.

I know I’m supposed to do a really long run in preparation for Portland but with trail
running, I feel like for what I lack in distance, I make up in quality and intensity. Trail running, at least for me, is not easy. I huff and puff all the way up a mountain. This is serious hill work! But at some point I’m going to do my ultra so why not just keep training on a mountain? 🙂 But until I sign up for my ultra, I’ve got Portland waiting for me and I’m so excited for it! I’ll be ready.

Thanks for reading and Happy Running!
