music monday: high

Posted on September 14, 2015October 6, 2015 by arunningmess

If there ever was a song that immediately told me what I needed to hear at that very moment, “High” by Young Rising Sons was it.

Many times as runners we get caught up in the minutiae of a run — the numbers, the time, the distance — and many times they determine how we feel about a run.

If we hit a PR, met a goal, or conquered a new distance — we feel good. We feel joy and pride in our accomplishment. As we should.

Of course, if we didn’t reach the distance we wanted, or didn’t reach a goal like the PR we trained for, we may feel sad and disappointed. Believe me, I know how it feels to be disappointed.

I was coming off a week where I just didn’t have the good running mojo, and in the middle of my run, this song popped up. And then a switch was immediately flipped when I heard…

Just let it go and enjoy the ride

Without the low there ain’t a high

That was it.

That was all it took.

As runners we have highs, and we certainly have lows. But it’s important to enjoy it all. Every run is a blessing. So enjoy the ride!

Thank you for reading listening!
