Today is a very special Music Monday dedicated to my favorite musician, Bruce Springsteen, who celebrates a birthday this Wednesday. Now, I’m a fan of many artists and bands, but none hold a candle to how I feel about The Boss.
Having seem him in concert about a dozen times, he is one helluva performer. In fact, I’ve traveled cross country a couple of times just to see him and The E Street Band play Giants Stadium; the last time being back in 2009 when they performed the final shows there. They are the only band I’d fly 3,000 miles just to see perform for a few hours.
The only other time I traveled to see a concert was going to Las Vegas to see Jason Mraz and Dave Matthews Band perform at the MGM Grand. I’m not a fan of Vegas so it took special someones to get me to go back. Jason and Dave were it.
Recently, the album “Born to Run” celebrated it’s 40th Anniversary and I could have picked the title track to be today’s Music Monday song, but instead, I selected my all-time favorite.
In fact, I’ve said this to my family. There are 4 songs I want played at my funeral: “In My Life” by The Beatles, “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley, “When My Time Comes” by Dawes, and without a doubt, “Thunder Road” from Bruuuuuuce. If these songs don’t get played, I’m coming back to lovingly haunt them. But I sure hope that day is a long way off.
“Thunder Road” is not a “running song” per se, at least not in the same way that “Born to Run” is considered as, but it’s one of the best songs nonetheless, and it does have one mention of running. And that’s good enough for me.
Enjoy and thank you for reading listening!
