Last weekend I had the complete joy of attending the advanced screening of the first season finale of Hulu’s “The Path.” If you haven’t watched it, it’s this crazy thing of a show about some people living in this religious “movement”, and I suppose it can be very reminiscent of a cult, where members alienate, or cut themselves off from having contact with people (even family) who are not in this so-called Meyerist Movement. Very interesting and once you start watching it, you just get sucked in. So many twists and turns and good stuff.
Anyways, my sister is a huge fan of the show and she’s the one who got me hooked. When she received a notice about the season finale being held a few days before the actual airing of it, of course, we had to go because we simply couldn’t wait to see what happens!
This was the third time for me seeing a show in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. The first time was to watch “Rosemary’s Baby.” Oh yeahhh, talk about creepy, but that’s such a classic movie and all the better to watch in a cemetery, with several friends. Bringing holy water is totally optional. The second time, I went to a Dawes concert inside the Masonic Lodge which is on the grounds, and such a great little venue. The creepy level wasn’t a factor.
By now you might be asking, does this have anything to do with running?
Would you believe, I actually found similarities between running and watching a show in a cemetery! I know. Who would’ve thunkit?
1. Dress in layers and bring something warm to wear.
Ok, not sure if this true across the board for all cemeteries (I don’t want to assume), but it gets really chilly cold when the sun goes down and it doesn’t matter what time of year it is. Ooooh spooky. It’s no secret this could hold true for running. Dress in layers…bring warm clothes if it’s cold…alright, this was an easy one.
2. Use a restroom a few times before the event starts.
Once the show starts somehow all paths leading out to the restrooms get covered with people. So unless you want to step on someone 10 minutes into the show, go! And we all know that even if we don’t have to go tinkles before starting on our run, or before the race, the minute the race gun goes off, well, you get the idea.
3. Be prepared to see wildlife.
This is especially true for trail running. Yes, those were ducks chilling out.
4. Be prepared to see celebrities.
Well this is L.A. afterall. Okay that’s not always the case. I don’t see many celebrities out when I run, but I do remember seeing Aaron Eckhart and Paul Rudd on separate occasions. However, on this night it was sort of a given considering there was a Q & A with the stars, Michelle Monaghan, Hugh Dancy, and Aaron Paul, whom I got the chance to get a selfie with before taking my seat. And I totally didn’t get the synchronicity between seeing Aaron (Eckart) and Paul (Rudd) names. Get it? Aaron Paul. Crazy!! Didn’t see that coming…just like when I watch “The Path.”
5. Wear the shirt!
Shirts are pretty expected during a race, but during a show screening? I wasn’t expecting one, but I’ll admit, the first thought I had was I’m totally wearing this when I run! Actually I put it on shortly after receiving it in order to add another layer because it was getting colder by the minute. I suppose I did what some people do in races, and that is, wear the race shirt for the actual race.
And I did wear it for my Saturday morning trail run and man, this shirt is comfortably soft! It’s gonna be going into the rotation…even if I did get a few weird odd looking stares at it because maybe people seriously thought I was in this cult, I mean, Movement.
Until next time…thanks for reading!
