With my plan all laid out for me, August was meant to be a solid month of consistent training. Unfortunately, I found myself logging more zeros than I intended.
Nobody ever intends to get sick, or injured, and have their training derailed by forced rest for days, even months at a time. Life itself even has its way of sneaking in with family, work, and travel commitments that can put some kinks in running time.
At the beginning of September, I was feeling a little behind endurance-wise compared to where I was when I was training for Javelina a couple of years ago, but then I remembered something…that was a couple of years ago!! And life was significantly different for me back then! Comparison is the thief of joy and honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing.
Setbacks happen. But yesterday is done. And yesteryears are over. Today is a new day. All we can do is keep moving forward.
With Javelina 4 weeks away, I could easily become stressed out over my “lack” of training, but I’m not.
I have 29 hours to complete the 100K on what is considered a relatively flat, non-technical course.
Not to diminish the difficulty of the race. It can be extremely hot. The course is entirely exposed. And you can find yourself dealing with issues and situations you’ve never experienced before.
The past couple of weeks I’ve consistently been putting in the work and my goal is to continue doing so until race day. And when that day arrives, I’ll have as much fun as I possibly can and enjoy whatever the day brings me.
I have no time to waste on thinking about what I did 2 years ago, or what I didn’t do last month. So stay upright, and keep moving forward! That’s all we ever need to do.
