9.33 miles
Today was a day for a couple of firsts: my first caffeinated cup of coffee after 6 days of decaf (it was glorious) and the first time I tried a Spring Energy gel.
Gels have never been my thing but it’s never prevented me from seeking out one that might help improve my energy levels during training and during the marathon.
A few weeks ago I bought a couple of flavors of the Spring Energy Gels and today I tried the Canaberry flavor and to my delight, it wasn’t bad.
There is a hint of tartness but what I really liked is that it wasn’t overly sweet. Many of the previous gels I’ve tried were always too sweet and would upset my stomach. Plus I just never enjoyed the consistency or texture of gels.
Honestly, I’m still not a gel person but I consumed half of this packet and could feel an improved difference in how I felt. There is one other flavor I have that I’ll try later, perhaps next week.
Other than that, I felt good for the shorter miles. The weather was on the warmer side, more than I anticipated, and from now on I need to plan as if it’s a scorcher outside and be pleasantly surprised when it’s not.
As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I watched the final episode of The Beatles: Get Back documentary and it stayed in my mind today. Throughout the film, I kept feeling waves of sadness between singing along and laughing. There were some funny moments!
But knowing what happens in the years that follow, I kept thinking, what if they stayed together? Would that have altered the course of events? Maybe. Maybe not. It left me wanting more. I’m thankful I’ve been able to see Paul McCartney in concert a couple of times but I wanted The Beatles to continue and of course, I knew that wasn’t possible. I didn’t expect it to affect me the way it did, and it elevated me as a fan even more.
Thank you for reading my daily post on my Chicago Marathon training.
