16.18 miles
Last night I made the decision not to set my alarm because I tend to wake up early anyways. Turns out my body needed extra minutes of rest because I didn’t sleep well. I didn’t wake up until just before 6 AM which was later than I wanted but no use in arguing.
My lower left back still felt slightly sore but it wasn’t bad. I could walk comfortably and that was enough for me, but the questions remained: How was running going to feel, and did I want to stay close to home or venture to the trail?
The main reason for staying close to home was if I needed to cut the run short I could easily do so, but I feel more comfortable on the trail and decided that’s where I wanted to be. Home would be too tempting.
I figured as long as I didn’t have any sharp shooting pain I was good to go and to be honest I didn’t even have pain yesterday. It just felt like a pulled muscle, just soreness. Besides, the rest of my body was going to feel tired and sore eventually so my back was simply going to mix in with the rest of my body.
For most of the 16 miles I felt okay, but the last 4 miles or so I was hot, tired, and really hungry and starting to think about having to go another 10 more miles in the marathon, and oh my gosh we’re 50 days away from race day!!
Why does it feel like it’s coming up so fast??
After 12 miles I put on some music and I only did so to distract my mind. It helped.
And I completed all 16 miles!
For a minute there I was thinking of pushing the 16 to next week but I decided I want to stay on schedule as much as possible and for that, I am extremely proud of myself today.
Thank you for reading my daily post on my Chicago Marathon training.
