4.42 miles
Looking ahead to this weekend’s forecast and it doesn’t look promising. This weather would be perfect if I were training for a certain race in Arizona that takes place in October around Halloween but nope, not this year.

I’ve had my fair share of hot weather training and even completing ultras in these temperatures, and they are not the most enjoyable for me, but I’ve gotten through them. However, I will not push myself to the point where I could jeopardize my health and well-being and lie on the verge of a heat stroke for the sake of completing a training run of 18 miles. No race is ever worth it regardless if it is Chicago or not. Besides, my goal is to show up to Chicago healthy!
Although I know Chicago has had its fair share of hot marathons so it’s entirely possible it could happen again this year and I need to be prepared. So I will focus on what I’ve done in the past with hot temperature runs. Start as early as I possibly can, hydrate ferociously, slow down, and call it if I don’t feel like I can continue on safely. I’m pretty good about erring on the side of caution. I can’t control the weather, but I can control how I prepare for it.
Thank you for reading my daily post on my Chicago Marathon training.
