14.40 miles
As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, the weather appears to want to check ALL the boxes in preparation for race day, and today it was Holy Humidity Batman!! 90% this morning and while the temperature wasn’t 98 degrees, I was sweating before I took one step which meant I needed to make sure I was drinking more water, more often.
The first 10 miles felt decent, but then I slowed more. Throughout the run, my heart rate was more elevated and I felt more exhausted than in last week’s heat run. Perhaps that was due to being rudely awakened by neighbors who wanted to test out their karaoke machine at 3 AM. Also, I stayed up later than I had initially planned but I couldn’t stop watching the US Open Semifinals match between Frances Tiafoe and Carlos Alcaraz. That match was a nail-biter!
Now I need to focus on next week’s 20 miles that at this point I am nervous about, but tonight I’m not going to think about it because it was kind of an eventful day with running around after the run so I’m going to kick my tired feet up and relax.
Thank you for reading my daily post on my Chicago Marathon training.
