6.05 miles
A cyclone of thoughts whirled around in my head during what I hoped was an easy relaxed run, but my feet had other ideas.
Since this was a shorter long run, I woke up a little later than I have been on the weekends. Today it was closer to 6 AM because I didn’t intend to head out until around 8 AM. I ate a little oatmeal, drank some coffee, and energy-wise I felt fantastic!
Around 3 miles in I began to feel a hot spot forming towards the inside of my left foot just to the side of the ball of the foot. Ok, interesting. And then about a mile later I could feel the same thing happening on my right foot closer to the arch. Huh. Alright. I guess this is happening today.
Today I was wearing my lighter Hoka Bondi 7s which have some miles in them but feel great that I paired them with my Injinji socks. Up until now, these haven’t given me issues. In fact, I was leaning towards them in the marathon but not so much now.
And here’s where all the thoughts started swirling around because I wasn’t wearing anything on my feet that were different from what I am used to wearing. What is going on? What do I do?
From that moment I knew I had two choices, keep going and fight through the discomfort, or call it and end the run early to prevent any further issues. I decided to call it. During the marathon, it will most likely be a different decision.
But here’s some good news!
I’ve mentioned before how I am trying to manifest a temperature of 60 degrees Fahrenheit, overcast, and light wind for race day, and it appears Chicago will be delivering something very close to that so I will happily take credit for asking the Universe and manifesting it thank you very much. Hahaha. Darn, I forgot to include low humidity. Is it too late to ask?
Ok, so today wasn’t exactly how I was hoping this run would go and was not quite encouraging going into the race. Just wish I wasn’t making these kinds of last-minute decisions but it is what it is. I will trust that I will make the best decision I can for the marathon.
Thank you for reading my daily post on my Chicago Marathon training.
