“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
I’ve been asking myself this Mary Oliver quote more and more these days.
With eyes wide open, my first instinct is to say, uhh I don’t know.
I know how my life has been up until now. There have been choices made. Regrets along the way. Lessons learned. Some lessons not learned.
Life has been a rollercoaster of experiences and emotions. A storybook that is full of twists and turns, upside downs, and highs and lows. Basically, life.
We also know plans don’t always work out. What’s that saying? If you want to make God laugh, tell him/her/them your plans. I’m pretty sure I’ve given God a bellyache full of giggles.
Oh, what to do with this one wild and precious life?
A few thoughts.
Laugh more
Listen to music
Dance
Drink coffee
Drink more water
Read more books
Read more banned books
Meditate
Practice yoga
Complete a marathon
Complete an ultra marathon
Travel
Go to concerts
Eat more vegetables (the quote does say wild)
Be kind
Be compassionate
Forgive the past
Focus on the here and now
Don’t dwell in the “What Ifs”
Explore different hobbies
Discover passions
Learn an instrument
Learn a different language
Never stop learning something
Live in gratitude
Follow your joy
Follow your heart
Love more
Care more
Care less
Write a new story
Be my weird authentic self
The list is endless!
All I know is, life is hard, it’s short, and it speeds up as we get older. Our time here is not always magical or magnificent because we know there is a ton of hurt in this world. But I’d like to try and enjoy it as much as I can while I’m here because there are no do-overs.
So…what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
Just a little something to think about.
P.S.
The lottery application for the TCS New York City Marathon is now open (February 8 – February 22). You can apply on the NYRR website and applicants will be notified of their acceptance status on March 1st.
Good Luck!!
