It’s St. Patrick’s Day and today officially marks 12 years of this blog’s existence.
It was on this day in 2011 when I hit submit to publish my first post, and it boggles my mind to think I still have this blog going. But I do think about when I’ll end it though.
There have been a few times when I’ve come close to shutting it down, but like Michael Corleone in The Godfather: Part III “just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.”
Not all things last forever, but it would be funny that after we’re long gone from this beautiful complicated messy planet, the only things remaining would be Twinkies, cockroaches, and this blog.
Time sure does fly.
We’re halfway through the month and it feels like there is a great deal going on these days.
Just with my TV viewing alone, I’m busy. I just finished watching the first season of The Last of Us, and The Mandalorian has now started. This week Ted Lasso returned and from what I’ve heard it’s the final season, and next week, Succession comes back. I’m a latecomer to Succession but it’s finally grabbed my attention and I have a few days to catch up on it. Not to mention all the other shows I watch. It’s March Madness!
If I were training for a marathon, or ultra-marathon I’d be so exhausted and wouldn’t know how to fit the running in. Good thing I’m not training for anything right now.
Speaking of ultramarathons, The Barkley Marathons concluded yesterday with a winner! In fact, three winners!
Jasmin Paris became the first female to complete 4 loops (out of 5) which is incredible! An amazing effort by all the participants and as always phenomenal coverage by one of my fantastic CRAW teammates, Keith Dunn. We are gifted with his remarkable updates and commentary.
This weekend is the LA Marathon and luckily after having plentiful rain these last few weeks (okay months), there is only a slight chance of it on race day, but I’ll have my poncho handy just in case.
I should note that I am NOT running the marathon. To be honest, the new course doesn’t really entice me enough to run it, but what I do thoroughly enjoy is getting out there to spectate and cheer on those who are.
Crowd support is important and it goes a long way in encouraging those who need it.
Making fun signs. Cheering. Clapping. Using noisemakers. Calling out names (if runners have them on their shirts). Shaking your Pom Poms – which I’ve done for the past several years – can make a huge difference in how a runner feels at that moment and uplift their energy.
Marathons are exhausting and I’m just talking about the spectating part. But they are so much fun and incredibly inspiring.
If you’re running this weekend in the LA Marathon or another race, I’m sending you good vibes and good luck!
P.S.
I’m breaking out these gems and wearing them today. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
