A couple of weeks prior to the Valley Crest Half Marathon, I went out to run the course preview. That morning couldn’t have been more perfect! The weather was very cool. There was a nice gloomy overcast. I started just after 7AM. I felt good. And it was absolutely nothing like the actual race.

la marathon 2014
Let’s just get this out of the way quickly…marathon day was very hot! Muy caliente! When I started looking at the 10 day forecast, I knew it was going to be a tough one. Why couldn’t our local meteorologists be wrong this time around? Good thing when I got to Dodger Stadium there was an…
sean o’brien 50k – my first ultra distance
Some people ask, “What is an ultra?” Well, an ultra is considered anything past the marathon distance of 26.2 miles. I suppose walking a mile to the car after having run a marathon would be considered an ultra, but not officially. My very first ultra distance attempt was to be at the 2013 Ray Miller 50K….
santa monica-venice christmas run 2013
The course, the ability to run both the 10k and 5k, and the awesome tech shirt they hand out are pretty much the reasons why I love running the Santa Monica-Venice Christmas Run! This was my third year in a row running it and I’m always so excited for this race. In 2011 I ran…
portland marathon 2013
The Portland Marathon was eons ago! November flew by in a flash. It was a cray cray month and I just didn’t have any writing in me. I barely even had any running in me. In October, I was consumed by baseball! Yes, baseball! After last year’s horrendous season and the disastrous collapse in 2011, the Red Sox…

When I said I planned on writing more in 2013, I really wasn’t planning on taking another 3-month hiatus from it. I meant to post this entry back in April (or early May the latest), but life of work and play happened and this post never got done. Well, welcome to blog post #3 for the year….
XTERRA boney mountain trail run 6k
We’re already into our third month of 2013 and I haven’t gotten around to writing anything. January and February flew by so fast! The funny thing is I started to write this post in January, and then in February but I just didn’t get it done. I’ll chalk it up to life, laziness, and lack of inspiration to…
recapping my running year
I honestly wouldn’t know how to eloquently recap my running year. I fell in love with trail running and ran my first trail race. I completed my first marathon in two years. I ran a number of smaller races and in the past month have dealt with a little injury that has sidelined my running a lot.
